Brading Dancers Buzzing after Year of Success
Dancers from the Roisin Mullins Dance Academy, who train at Brading Town Hall, have enjoyed successful first year.
Since being established Brading in March 2018, by local resident Roisin Mullins, the academy have won 62 National dance awards, at Feis competitions including numerous 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, as well as taking home a 1st place, and 2nd place twice from the Sandown Children’s Day Carnival. Roisin who formerly toured with Michael Fatley’s Lord of the Dance, and has appeared on shows such as The X-Factor and The Apprentice, is herself a UK Open dance champion and Bronze World medallist. Roisin relocated to the Island in 2017, and wanted to create a dance community for local children, and share her years of twenty years of dance teaching experience. The academy train twice a week at Brading town hall and also run regular dance workshops in local schools and in Brading. In 2018 the whole of Brading School were treated a dance workshop day with Roisin, and many of the local pupils have continue to train at the academy to date.
Specialising in Irish dancing the academy offers the traditional feis style, as well as the Riverdance show-style, along-side Ballet, Modern, Freestyle and Cheerleading. When they are not competing, the light footed youngsters have been out in raising funds for charities, by performing at events such as the Brading Flower Festival, Brading Roman Villa Easter Egg Hunt, the Brading Roman Villa, Island Highland Gathering, Brading Railway Station events, Sandham Garden’s Teddy Bears Picnic, and Sandown’s Hullabaloo. The academy have also performed at the Rhythm Tree Festival, Calbourne and have twice now been invited to perform at the Quay Arts Theatre, Newport. Summer 2019 has also saw the academy run its first Summer school programme in Brading, which was well attended by a troupe of toe tappers.
The academy is proud to have trained local children such as Brading’s own Annabelle Acutt, 10, and Brading School pupil Elsie Butler, 6, as well as Ashey teenager Mackenzie Davis, 15, who have all won numerous National Dance awards at Feis competitions. The local trio regularly travel to the mainland to compete, along-with other dancers from the school, and are already fast following in their dance teachers footsteps achieving National dance success.
Roisin said of the academy’s success, ‘There is so much enthusiasm for dance here in Brading, we are so lucky to have attracted local children, as well as dancers in from across the Island who come to Brading to dance, and enjoy spending time in the town each week. We have created a wonderful sense of community within our Brading dance family. I am very proud of the wonderful success our young dancers have had so far, after such a short time, and how active they have also been in taking part in community events.’
Youngsters aged 0-18 years that would like to join the academy are welcome to register for the new term which begins in September. For further information visit www.roisinmullins.co.uk/irish-dance-academy email firstname.lastname@example.org mobile 07832271809
