WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO JOIN IN BRADING IN BLOOM.

The Resident’s Association would like to invite you join in Brading in Bloom.

This year the categories have changed to make it fairer overall.

There are prizes to win in all  categories.

We would really appreciate if,  you yourselves,  if you live in Brading,  would consider entering and encouraging others to enter too.

If only we could achieve the splash of colour the poster displays, it would really cheer Brading up. Hopefully attracting more visitors too.

You can also print the form from here too.

Closing date for entries is 31st May 2026

Monitoring of Speed – High Street near the Youth Club

This is what the speed looks like for vehicles outside the youth club in Brading.  This is a 20 mph limit.  A pedestrian hit at 30 mph is approximately 5 to 7 times more likely to die.  Do we need to wait?
(Measured autumn 2025).

Please support this great cause. Brading Bells are raising funds towards the restoration of the historic bells of St Mary’s, Brading.

Please help if you can. Thank you.

The last scam warning of the year from Trading Standards

  • Members of our team have received this from friends, a Whatsapp message offering a Cadbury hamper giveaway. You just have to complete a short quiz for a hamper of Christmas Chocs. This is a SCAM and is designed to steal your information, leading to you being plagued with scam messages and calls in the future. DON’T click on the link and let whoever sent it to you know that this is a scam.

  • We have spotted adverts (popping up online) claiming to be supported by celebrities or the items being sold in major stores like Boots, even being endorsed by WHICH. DON’T click on these adverts. If you are interested in the product so some research online and make informed decisions

  • Reports of emails received, claiming to be from the DVLA saying that your vehicle tax needs to be renewed – DON’T click on these links they are SCAMS

  • Someone has reported a text message purporting to be from Argos advising you to click on  a link regarding a high value payment to them, it gives you a number to call if this wasn’t you. DON’T call this number, this will be a protracted attempt to refund you the payment but will ultimately result in you losing money to scammers.

  • We have also had reports of phone calls received claiming to be from Council Tax, Southern Water, BT and the HMRC all stating that you owe money or you need to call them to resolve an issue – these will all be SCAMS. DON’T respond to these, hang up and block the number. These organisations wont call you out of the blue and if you are concerned, find their number independently and call them on that to clarify.

Today the Trustees of the BCP are delighted to share a very special announcement  from His Majesty the King.

“His Majesty The King has approved the KAVS National Assessment Committee’s recommendation that the volunteers of Brading Community Partnership should receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) 2025. This represents a tremendous achievement and we hope that the group’s volunteers will feel immensely proud of it.”

This award is the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations. Thank you to everyone who works so tirelessly to make the BCP activities a success. It is wonderful to know that your hard work has been recognised and rewarded by King Charles.

May be an image of text that says '中t The King' s Award for Voluntary Service The The MBE for volunteer groups'

Brading Community Partnership welcomes back animals for the summer.

We are delighted to be taking care of young pigs and chickens again this year on Brading Community Meadow. We will also be welcoming some lambs next week. The Young people who come to the youth club really enjoy caring for and learning about the animals. The people of Brading are welcome on the meadow at any time and this summer we will have lovely places to sit and take in the peace and quiet thanks to a generous grant from Asda. Do come along and see the animals but please do not feed them!

If you would like to volunteer to feed and care for the animals we have morning and evening sessions available where you can learn about looking after the animals under the supervision of our Community Farmer. To find out more contact Kate on 0797421143

Zombie-style knives and machetes ban has come into effect

Zombie-style knives and machetes are now banned from today under new legislation brought in by the Government to strengthen existing knife crime laws and to take dangerous weapons off the streets.

Throughout the summer, designated police stations were made available for you to surrender these weapons safely and legally, and claim compensation if you were eligible to. Now this opportunity has come to an end with the ban in place from today.

It is one of multiple measures the Government is going to implement to tackle knife crime in our country. Further bans, tougher restrictions on online sales, and prevention methods to stop young people being drawn into crime are expected to be a part of those measures.

What is a zombie knife?

These are bladed weapons with:

  • a plain cutting edge
  • a sharp pointed end, and
  • a blade of over eight inches long

Which also has one or more of the following:

  • a serrated cutting edge over two inches long
  • more than one hole in the blade
  • spikes
  • more than two sharp points in the blade

What does the new law mean?

It is now illegal to own specific types of zombie knives and machetes. The law prohibits the possession, sale, manufacture, or transportation of these weapons.

Find out more here.

What could happen if I have one of these banned weapons?

Individuals found in possession of these prohibited weapons could face significant legal penalties, including imprisonment. The maximum sentence for possession of banned weapons is set to increase from six months to two years.

Tactical Lead for knife crime, Inspector Sarah Nicholson, said: “We must stop these dangerous knives ending up on our streets and in the hands of criminals. Officers will take robust and positive action towards anyone found in possession of any of these knives in order to protect our communities and keep them safe.”

In 2023, we permanently installed surrender bins so that they are accessible all year round for knives or weapons to be disposed of across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, but no compensation is being offered, you can find where these are here.

If you have any information about knife crime you can report it on our website or call 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.

You can report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit the website here.
